Strong English carries every other subject, and it is the subject where technique matters most. Our classes work on the parts of the paper that decide the grade: comprehension answering, composition structure, grammar and vocabulary, and the oral and listening components that many families leave until exam week.
What does each level cover in Primary English?
Classes are grouped by level so the pace matches the school year. The focus areas below follow the current MOE syllabus; the exact topic order follows each school's term.

What is the PSLE English format?
PSLE English has four papers. Paper 1 is Writing: a situational writing task and a continuous writing composition. Paper 2 is Language Use and Comprehension: grammar and vocabulary multiple choice, vocabulary cloze, visual text comprehension, grammar cloze, editing, comprehension cloze, synthesis and transformation, and open-ended comprehension. Paper 3 is Listening Comprehension. Paper 4 is Oral: reading aloud and a stimulus-based conversation. Our P5 and P6 classes practise every component, not only composition.
How does a English lesson with six students run?
The teacher checks last week's practice from every child, teaches the topic the school is on this term, then moves between six desks while the class works. Every child reads, explains or answers out loud every lesson. Children who finish early get extension questions; children who are stuck get the teacher beside them. Where do primary school students lose English marks?
Comprehension answers that retell instead of answer
Students copy the paragraph instead of answering the question. We drill the routine: read the question, locate the evidence, answer in the form the question asks for.
Compositions with no plan
A strong opening and a rushed ending. We teach a planning frame that fits in two minutes and a paragraph structure that markers reward.
Grammar known in isolation, lost in context
A child who can name the tense still gets the cloze wrong. We practise grammar inside passages, the way the paper tests it.
Oral left to the last week
Reading aloud and conversation are practised in class every term, so exam-week nerves meet a habit, not a first attempt.

Questions parents ask about Primary English tuition
Do you teach composition writing?
Yes. Composition planning, structure and vocabulary are part of every English class from Primary 3, and PSLE Paper 1 (situational and continuous writing) practice starts in Primary 5. Marked compositions come back with specific fixes, not just a grade.
Is oral and listening practice included?
Yes. Reading aloud and stimulus-based conversation are practised in class, not left to the exam week. Listening comprehension practice starts in the upper primary years when it appears in school exams.
Do your classes follow the MOE syllabus?
Yes. Each class follows the MOE primary syllabus for its level and the school term, so what your child does at WhaleYou lines up with homework and school exams. In Primary 5 and 6, practice moves to PSLE format.
How many students are in a WhaleYou class?
Never more than six. Every Primary 1 to 6 class at WhaleYou Learning is capped at 6 students with one teacher, at both Beauty World Centre and Alexandra Central. If a class is full we open a new one or waitlist; we do not add a seventh chair.
How much does a lesson cost?
$50 per lesson for Primary 1 to 3, $55 for Primary 4 to 5 and $60 for Primary 6, for every subject and at both centres. A trial lesson is $20. Full details are on the fees page.
How does the $20 trial lesson work?
Your child joins a real class of six or fewer for one full lesson, at either centre. The teacher then shares what they noticed and whether the class is the right fit. There is no obligation to continue, and no sales talk.
